My dear readers,
This was the question I asked myself every day: ‘Why do I feel tired all time?’ before I changed to a paleo – gluten free lifestyle. I could not figure out why I was so tired.
I went to bed at a reasonable time, slept 7 hours and got up feeling like I partied all night. It did not make sense. Going out in the evening or on the weekends was way too much work. Shopping I did only on my way to and from work, so I did not have to go out extra, just to go to the store.
I had zero energy and I kept on asking myself every day – why do I feel tired all time? There is no reason for that. I slept well, my job is not that demanding. Something is not right.
Finally I came to the realization that it can only be what I was eating. Back then I ate sandwiches for lunch at the office, ate pasta in all forms, bread or cereal for breakfast, etc.
I drank orange juice and thought it was healthy, not realizing that the orange juice had tons of sugar. Almost everything I ate had sugar and high fructose corn syrup added. The only things I did not do – I don’t like sodas and I do not put sugar in my coffee.
Once I realized that I am not getting out of this energy slump unless I change, it was not so hard to get away from the foods I used to eat all my life.
Yes, some people tell me they cannot live without bread. I thought so too, but it is easy. Eating healthy makes you feel full. You don’t have the cravings for bread or pasta, or cake…… Getting away from conventional food made me realize how dependent I was on sugar. And once you eat sugar you crave more sugar.
It is a vicious cycle. But once you break it, you feel a thousand percent better. I have tons of energy and I feel good like I have never felt before. I actually want to do things. I want to go to the gym to attend Aqua Fit, and if I am not able I feel bad.
That happened never before. Back then just the thought of going to the gym made me hide in my bed underneath the blankets. Now I can’t wait to get in the water.
So if you are like I was, and ask yourself: ‘Why do I feel tired all time?’ it might be what you eat. I started reading labels and just seeing how many ingredients are in a simple food like cheese, made me realize that we are being fed nothing but unhealthy foods and I needed to change that for myself to get healthy. No more processed foods, as organic as I possibly can get, grass fed organic meat, organic vegetables and fruits…a anything that is good for my body.
It is important how I feel and I am sure you feel the same way. Switching to a healthy paleo – gluten free lifestyle does not mean to have to starve yourself or eat strange foods. You eat normal foods without the chemicals, preservatives and artificial colors and flavors. And most of all you get away from the addicting sugar that lives and is disguised in many forms in our food.
I hope you enjoy your Sunday,
Karin
