Exercise – Motivation

This morning I had a hard time getting up. Yes, I did not sleep too well and was actually woken up by the alarm clock.

As every morning, my husband and I go to LA Fitness to swim and at 9am for AquaFit. We have been doing that for 5 weeks now – 7 days a week, with a couple of days off, because the pool was closed for maintenance.

Today I had to drag myself out of bed. Not even the gentle cold and wet nose of my cat, rubbing my face, helped very much. I wanted to stay in bed soooooo bad. But then I remembered my goal – get healthy and lose weight.

So, I got up, got dressed, fed my kitty and off we went.

When I got to the pool I felt really stiff and tired, so it took me longer to warm up before going into the water. I walked several times around the pool, and then I walked 6 lengths in the pool before I started to limber up and was ready to swim. Today was a quiet day, so each of has had our own lane without sharing. We swam for 45 minutes and then we had our 50 minutes of AquaFit.

And I have to say, I am so glad I did get up, because it felt so good to exercise in the water. And I felt good because I did not give in.

Motivation – yes – but the love of swimming helped also.

I found, if I choose an exercise I love, I can keep my goals. But if I choose an exercise I am not too comfortable with, I give up easy. We have an elliptical at home, but I cannot get the energy up to consistently use it. It is a beautiful machine with a lot of settings, and I can watch TV while doing it. And I would love to be able to do the runs – but I am not there yet. It is still intimidating for me. I am hoping, once I get into better shape, I will use it every day.
